Podcast
It takes two.
While on the job, it is so important to have professional behavior at all times while on set AND off. Unfortunately for some, it can be difficult to be “friendly” at work without coming off as flirtatious. Sometimes, your co-worker may get the wrong impression and ask you out on a date leaving you in one of those awkward sticky situations.
It’s important to be assertive and let your co-worker know that you’re not interested in anything other than a professional relationship. This can be done in a polite professional, mature way, without being aggressive.
Poor Behavior Affects Everyone
While I have experienced this type of “professional behavior” first hand, I have also seen poor choices from co-workers of mine, and we ALL ended up losing out on work because of it. Note, if the client asks only you to stay later for drinks, it’s probably a good idea to decline.
Professional Behavior > Casting Couch
I hate that I even have to say this, but unfortunately, the casting couch in the entertainment industry still exists. Have confidence in saying NO, and always plan ahead. Even if you maintain professional behavior at all times while on set, it doesn’t mean that everyone else will. Ugh.
While I do agree in my particular case it was more of a “shoot your shot” sort of situation, that’s not always the case.
Check out this episode of Always Acting Up podcast and make sure you are aware of the professional behavior on set and what is considered standard and not.
Most importantly, if you’re gut is feeling a sort of way, listen to it.
