Starring in your own movie.
Hedy Wong is an artist who wrote and produced her own feature film, called “Take Out Girl”.
After studying the career success of her friends who were musicians and comedians, she decided to invest in herself and take her career into her own hands.
Writing Take Out Girl
While Hedy is a “newer” actress, writing a feature film wasn’t something she had done before either. After putting the pen to paper she began her journey to what is now a fully produced feature film.
Many drafts later, she was able to connect with the director of “Take Out Girl”, Hisonni Mustafa, who helped mold the film to fit more of who she is as an individual and artist. Being a new actress, it was important for Hisonni and Hedy to create a character who would reflect who Hedy is in real life.
Can you say mission accomplished?
Using life inspiration for “Take Out Girl” feature film
During my conversation with Hedy on Always Acting Up podcast, I was fascinated by how she was able to view the process of a feature film production.
Growing up around her family’s restaurant, she knew that it had to function like a well-oiled machine. Everyone has a certain job to do in order to make the business flow properly. If something went wrong, it could possibly throw everything else off course. She witnessed firsthand the struggles and successes of running a restaurant.
If there is one thing I have heard from writers over and over, it is, to write what you know, and that is exactly what Hedy did. While not everything has to be 100% factual, it’s a great place to draw inspiration from. And with that being said, getting started is your first step toward the success of writing a feature film.
