I just wanna play too, but…

Treating your entertainment career like a business. Think about it, you wouldn’t start a business without the proper tools, and you can’t expect to succeed in the
entertainment industry without them either.

Regardless of where you are in your career, it’s important to remember one thing: you are a business. And like any business, you need to have a clear idea of what you’re trying to achieve.

Although your agent or manager may be handling some of the business aspects of your entertainment career, it’s crucial that you work hard and take control of your future.

This article will discuss some key strategies for elevating your career in the entertainment
industry and becoming a powerhouse.

Keep Your Marketing Tools Updated

A little motivation for you

The first and most vital step is to make sure your tools are up to date and of the best quality. This means having current headshots, an updated resume, a strong demo reel, and social media presence. It sounds like a lot, but it’s essential in today’s TV business. Your press kit is your calling card, so you want to make sure it’s the best it can be.

It should show off your range and highlight your unique qualities.

Social media is a particularly important platform because it allows you to control the narrative
around your brand. Make sure you’re regularly posting content aligned with the image you want
to project.

Create Your Own Website

In addition to your social media platforms, you should also create a website for yourself. This is
another excellent way to control the narrative and show off your work in the most professional
light possible.
Your website needs to be easy to navigate and straightforward. Include important information,
such as your headshot, resume, contact info, etc. In addition, you should frequently update your
website with any new projects, press, or other news.

While this is not 100% crucial, it IS important to make sure that your online casting profiles and IMDB pages are up to date.

Make Connections

In the entertainment industry, it’s all about who you know. Start by attending industry events,
meet-ups, and networking functions. Get your name out there and socialize with other
professionals.
If you don’t live in a major city, there are still ways to connect with industry professionals. Social
media is a great way to start building relationships.
You never know when you might meet your next big break.

Want to treat your entertainment career like a business? Be Persistent!

It takes a ton of hard work and perseverance to succeed in the entertainment industry. You will
likely face rejection many times before you find success. However, be persistent and work hard
for your dreams.
Once you have your foot in the door, don’t stop working. Continue to market yourself and look
for ways to improve your career. TV show business is constantly changing, so stay on top of the
latest trends and keep putting yourself out there.

Establish Your Personal Brand

Your brand is what sets you apart from other entertainers. Be strategic when creating your
brand and consider how you want to be perceived by the industry.

Think about the type of roles you want to book and what kind of image you need to project. Are
you quirky? Serious? Select a few adjectives that you want to be known for and make sure your
branding reflects that.

However, don’t try to be someone you’re not. Be authentic and true to yourself.

Pursue Learning Opportunities

To grow your career, you need to learn and evolve continuously. There are many ways to do
this, such as taking classes, attending workshops, and reading industry-related books and
articles.
If you don’t know where to start, ask your friends and colleagues for recommendations. TV
show business is tricky, but you’ll be one step closer to success if you’re armed with the right
tools and knowledge.

Take Care of Yourself

This may seem obvious, but it’s often unheeded. To be successful in the TV business, you need
to be healthy and have a clear mind. That means getting adequate sleep, eating well, and
exercising regularly.
Taking care of your mental and physical health is fundamental to success. This industry can be
very stressful, so make sure to take time for yourself and do things that make you happy.

For example, find a hobby or activity that helps you relax and recharge. For me, that’s doing things like yoga, hiking, and traveling.

Find out how YOGA can be helpful for your acting career.

Be Easy to Work With

Bad Behavior as an Actor

No one wants to work with a drama queen, so you need to be easy to work with. That means
being punctual, prepared, and professional on set.

It’s essential to have a positive attitude and be a team player. If you’re constantly causing issues or are difficult to work with, people will likely not want to work with you again.

TV show business is all about networking and making connections, so be friendly and professional. You never know if you’ll have to work with someone again in the future.

Don’t Be Scared to Follow-up

After you’ve met someone or gone on an audition, make sure to follow up. TV show business is
all about building relationships, so keep in touch with the people you meet.
A simple email or text message can go a long way. Just make sure you don’t come across as
too pushy or desperate.

Try New Things

In order to succeed, you need to be open to trying new things. If you’re only willing to do one
thing, you’re likely not going to find much success. The entertainment industry is always
changing, so be adaptable.
Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. You never know what might
lead to your big break.

Set Your Boundaries and Stick to Them

If you’re not comfortable with something, don’t do it or get caught up in the moment. Set your
boundaries and stick to them. Don’t be scared to speak up and say no if someone tries to take advantage of you or make you do something that makes you feel uncomfortable. If you do, it may discourage you and keep you from pursuing your TV show business goals.

It’s so important to know your worth and not sell yourself short. If you’re being offered a role or if an
opportunity doesn’t align with your values or boundaries, trust your gut and say no.

Conclusion

So there you have it! These are just a few things to keep in mind as you pursue an
entertainment career. It’s important to work hard, be strategic, prepared, and easy to work with.

And most importantly, don’t give up on your dreams. Pursue them relentlessly, and anything is
possible. Good luck!
