There are many elements that can help you perform better on camera. Although there are plenty of actors who make this look easy, it takes a lot of practice to bring the best on screen performance to life.
While some people are naturally comfortable in front of the camera, others aren’t, and that is 100% ok.
Luckily, there are many things we can do through training and time that can help us perform with confidence in front of the camera.
One of the most important elements to an on screen or on stage performance is confidence. You need to have confidence in your abilities, cast members, director and script in order to relax and have your best performance. Don’t worry, the more you perform, the more confident you will become.
Trust me, we’ve all had our “moments”, so throw the idea of a “perfect performance” out the door.
Next, memorizing (or learning) lines is another key element for a successful performance on camera. It’s not necessary to memorize your entire script word-for-word.
However, it is important to have a general idea of what you need to say and how it flows without looking at your script or cue cards during filming.
Breathing techniques are also important for delivering a convincing performance on camera. Breathing helps keep your energy levels up and also helps to prevent you from getting too nervous or upset about something that may happen during filming.
These are just a few elements that can help you perform better on camera. Subscribe to Always Acting Up so you don’t miss the next article.
