Relatable actors with podcasts. Advice you can actually use.
Looking for guidance on how to make it in Hollywood? While there are many fantastic podcasts, there are a few actor’s podcasts that I play on rotation. Here are my top 5 best podcasts for actors.
These podcasts are by actors who share their knowledge and insight towards a career in Hollywood. Each individual podcast and episode offer helpful advice, from how to develop your craft to how to stay mentally strong in the industry. Plus, you’ll get to hear interviews with industry professionals who can offer real-world advice on making it in the entertainment industry.
Let’s check out the list of the 5 BEST podcasts for actors!
“Always Acting Up” podcast for actors
Yall, ok. I’m sorry. I’m an actor and that means I have to always casually self-promote. I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to mention all of my favorite podcasts without mentioning my own podcast, Always Acting Up.
I remember watching an episode of America’s Next Top Model one day and Tyra Banks asked the girls who they thought should win. She was appalled that not one single girl mentioned themselves as worthy of winning the title. So to make Tyra, and myself, proud. I’m gonna have to say, me. I would listen to me. 🙂
Why you should listen
*On a more serious note, Always Acting Up podcast explores the necessary steps towards career success in the entertainment industry. We have conversations with directors, filmmakers, actors, and musicians who have already walked the walk. We share tips and tricks, roadmaps to break in, success (and mishaps) stories, and what it takes to have a successful career in the entertainment industry. Take a listen.
Audrey Helps Actors Podcast
I heard about Audrey and her podcast for actors while working on set one day. Just a casual conversation with another actor and he mentioned some of his favorite podcasts and that Audrey’s podcast was on the top of his list.
Before I started Always Acting Up podcast, I listened to as many podcasts for actors as possible to get an idea of what was already out there and how I could fit in. When I finally got to Audrey’s, I was HOOKED!
Why you should listen
I’m going to go ahead and call Audrey Helps Actors sort of the mecca of podcasts for actors. She covers so many topics that I believe are important for actors and her secret little tips and tricks that have worked for her in the past. PLUS, she has a segment that covers things about your union which you may or may not know already.
The Think Bigger Actors Podcast
This podcast for actors was recommended to me by one of my great fellow creatives, Destiny Faith Nelson, during one of our many conversations about the industry.
Hosted by actor DaJuan Johnson who is not only a series regular on Amazon’s Bosch, but a certified life coach. Say what? Learning how DaJuan finagled a co-star role into a series regular gig while doing xyz and being a father is one of the coolest success stories. I’m telling you, ANYTHING is possible.
Why you should listen
Because DaJuan is a certified life coach, his podcast focuses on the mindset of a working actor.
If you’ve listened to my podcast you will definitely hear me talking about some of the struggles artists face while embarking on a career in the entertainment industry. Therefore, a podcast by a working actor, that focuses on your mindset, is 100% necessary.
I also like that he has a “tribe” where actors can come to connect, grow, and collaborate with one another.
4th “Best podcasts for actors”= Mentors on the Mic
Actress Michelle Simone Miller hosts an awesome podcast all about mentorships. I’ve said this many times, if I just had a mentor at the beginning of my career, I would have saved myself a lot of years and tears.
I “virtually” ran into Michelle several times through a casting I had posted for my podcast, then again when she was moderating groups on Clubhouse.
I was such a fan of Michelle and her podcast that I invited her to be a guest on my podcast where we chatted all about mentorships and what to do if the job you booked GETS CANCELLED! This is an episode you do NOT want to miss. Listen HERE!
Why you should listen
Michelle interviews some of the coolest talents in the industry such as Emmy-winning casting directors, showrunners, career coaches, music managers, etc.
In one of my favorite episodes, Michelle actually tells you HOW to get a mentor of your own and how to maintain the relationship.
The Hollywood Actors Guide to Surviving the Film and TV Industry
First of all, I just want to say that I just love this gal, host and actor, Jennifer Lynn Warren. I guess it’s almost been a decade since we first met, dancing in a Middle Eastern and belly dancing troupe, but I have to say, I always admire her work ethic and talents.
In fact, I got my first podcast sponsorship by following in her coattails. More importantly, this is a podcast for actors that I highly recommend hitting that subscribe button to.
Oh, and check out this episode of Always Acting Up podcast where Jen shares some serious knowledge and how she booked a role opposite Katy Bate’s in American Horror Story, ah!
Why you should listen
The Hollywood Actors Guide to Surviving the Film and TV Industry comes jam-packed with information in short, under 20-minute episodes. If you’re looking to cut to the chase and get the answers you’re looking for, this is the podcast for you.
Jen covers tops such as terminology an actor should know, how to answer the dreaded question of “tell me about yourself”, starting your scenes, and so much more.
